Felix

This is the first cat we got after moving here.  We named him Felix, but as you can see, we mis-named him.  He should have been named Toothless, for the dragon in How to Train Your Dragon.

He's pretty much the friendliest cat in the world.  When people come to visit, he sleeps with them.  I haven't had anyone complain yet.  He's polite.  Sometimes he just gets in your suitcase for the duration of your visit.

He comes running when he's called.  When he was younger, I'd go on the back porch and holler real loud until my voice bounced off the trees, and he would come tearing out of the woods and run through the pasture all the way to my feet.

When he was a kitten, he made friends with the neighbors brindle colored great dane.  I'd look out the window, and there would be this tiny kitten chasing this huge dog.  It was a joy to watch, honestly.  They were fast friends.

Unbeknownst to me, Kool-Aid was supposed to be a working dog.  As a result of him being at my house playing with my cat all day, he was deemed unworthy and they gave him away.

I found this out because one day Felix didn't come home.  The kids were devastated.  I called and called, and he didn't come.

The kids went around with his picture and a neighbor down the way told them he was in a different pasture.

So, I moved to the middle of my yard and hollered for him like I always did and 20 minutes or so later, here comes this black cat trotting up the road.  He got to the driveway, flung himself down and began rolling in the dirt.

I am convinced he went looking for that dog.

He has no killer instinct.  Currently, he has a blue jay friend.  He goes out in the front yard and lays on his back and waits.  The jay will dive bomb him, and they run and play together.

The other morning, my husband reported that the blue jay was on the porch with the cat.  The blue jay seemed uninterested, nor scared of my husband.  He and the cat continued to play together despite the audience.

Felix's favorite place in the whole house is under my feet in the kitchen.  He loves his food like no cat I've ever seen before, yet he remains fit and trim.

He'll jump up on a stool to be pet, and does the whole rub your arm with his paw if you stop.  He's not much of a cuddle buddy like my other one, but he does like to sleep at my feet at night and have one foot resting against him, or to rest against my leg.

Very occasionally, and I'm not sure what triggers it, he does need to be cuddled and snuggled.

He hates the puppies, sort of.  He did at first, but he will tease them and I caught him downright playing with Fred one time.  It's a process, I think.

I went from 6 kids to 4 animals and 2 kids.  Now I'm down to 4 animals and one kid...sometimes.  It's about time for 2 more animals.  I'm thinking goats next.

Either way, there has to be somebody for everybody.
